There are three primary approaches to cutting fabric: Freehand Cutting: This method involves making chalk markings directly on the fabric based on the wearer’s measurements and the chosen style. Pattern Drafting: This involves creating a basic fit on paper, which is then manipulated on paper, to achieve a the chosen style. The result is called a pattern, which is later used to cut the fabric  Draping: This is a technique used to create a three-dimensional pattern for a chosen style, by pinning fabric onto a dress form or mannequin.
