FOUNDATION COURSE IN SEWING AND PATTERN DRAFTING (WOMEN’SWEAR)

This course is designed for the fashion enthusiast, and those who may or may not have prior sewing knowledge, who are new to pattern making methods. In this course, students are taught sewing and pattern techniques necessary for a newbie to have a solid foundation and grow in mastery. This course is the equivalent of a beginners and intermediate course.

The course covers a wide range of skirts; with the skirt block manipulated, alongside the student’s measurement, to come up with new and complex styles of skirts. Styles such as bias cut skirt, six-pieces, tulip, gathered, pleated skirts will be analyzed and brought to life.

The close-fit bodice block is also manipulated in this course, resulting in more complex bodice styles such as cowl neck, raglan, illusion neck, off-shoulder, etc. The emphasis of this course is a fitted bodice. Sleeve and neckline variations are also included.

  • Threading a sewing machine – Sewing straight, curvy, and zigzag lines
  • Sewing and pattern drafting tools – 
  • Sewing with allowance

  • Zippers: Lapped, Centered, French invisible, invisible
  • Circles 
  • Basic skirt
  • Mini-me block – Lining (Hanging lining, full lining, lining slit areas)
  • Pencil skirt  
  • Close fit bodice block
  • Test block for fit –
  • Dart transfer
  • Wide neck rule / waisted garments / peplum top –
  • Sleeveless garment
  • Gathered / pleated skirt – Gypsy skirt
  • Pieces Skirt (Band with elastic at the sides)
  • Godets Skirt Variations (Style)
  • Dart Transfer – A-line Skirt – Wrap skirt
  • Bias cut :Mermaid skirt

PROJECT

You are expected to carry out a project, which you will execute based the knowledge and skill acquired during the course.

The fee for each course is dependent on the option of learning and the course. Registration fee is ₦5,000.
