Project Smile: Part 2

"
We started out the project with a goal to put smiles on the faces of the children, we ended the project having smiles also on our faces...
"
Above is a cut out of the messages I sent out to those who partnered with us for Project Smile.
exciting interaction

As the day approached, we knew we need to capture moments, and Lodade Sowole of Never too Glam, was just a call away. She came out in her stylish self, adding more colour to our outing, not forgetting also capturing moments.

We would have a mini fashion show and we needed finger foods... Ada Faith Alisgwe was all in, ensuring all the food we needed was available before we set out.

We needed people who were partnering with us to see the progress we had made as regards the clothing, and Sarah Isaac, was our in-house photographer, taking pictures of clothes that have been made. Sarah was also our DJ, we knew we did not want any dull moment, and we needed some high vibe music. She ensured we had a loud speaker, and relatable songs jamming.

We needed to ensure that all the clothes that were made were high standard and quality. Sakina Sadiq, Peace Femi, and Damilola (an IT student from Jigawa Polytechnic) ensured this. We had to do the sorting on three different occasions.

I told the Project Manager that I would love us to wear the branded company tee-shirt, and a pair of Ankara trousers. Unknown to me, herself and other team members had taken  Asoebi. Even though some of us were left out of the uniform, it added colour.
Asoebi girls ..lol

And the D-day finally came,

We received more gift items for the home before setting out, adding to the variety of our gift.

We packed the gift items into the waiting cars, said prayers, did some photo shoot, and off we went.

Our procession into the home was fun and colourful.

We entered the home, and the project manager was fully in charge. Prayers was said by the newest Amarya on the Osas Olumese team - Mercy thus kicking off the party. We then arranged the chairs making room for  a runway. Sarah and Damilola began matching the children to do the modelling, with the cloth to be worn. Ada took charge of the food stand.

Kelechi , the project manager gave a brief talk on why we had come, as she reminded the children about when she came five months ago, to get their measurements taken (this further increased the excitement). She also mentioned that whoever would like to learn how to sew can indicate their interest to learn, as we had provided two slots for the home.

I, Osamudiame Olumese, came up and thanked the children, and spoke of my excitement about the mini fashion show, which I took part in, walking the runway.

Hepzibah was not so happy at the start, but she was a wonder on the runway, Thanks to Mercy's encouragement

Peace ...manning the entrance to the runway, from the changing room

Sakina Sadiq came up and spoke of how she started learning at Osas Olumese Training Institute as a young child in JSS2, and how much she has grown in the skill 5 years latter.

Question time came, and Grace, a child at the home was full of questions. Her questions were answered, and it was time to get the fashion show started.

The Fashion show began with me, walking down the runway, followed by Sarah... giving the children modeling a clue on what they should do. To our surprise, the children already knew what to do, and they came out giving us different styles and poses...

The laughter, the smiles... every thing just came together flawlessly. We had other people who had come to visit the home join in our excitement.

The event ended with official presentation of gift items, and prayers said over every one present, by one of the administrators in the home.

Although we did not meet the proprietress of the home, as she had gone out for an event with some children in the home, we are sure she came back to see the excitement in the faces of those present, and hear of the fun we had.

Would we do this again? YES
Plans are already on for a December outing. So If you would love to be a part of the excitement... start working towards it, cause we have already started.
