Things you would Love to Know about OOTI

Osas Olumese Training Institute (OOTI) is an arm of Osas Olumese. It is a fashion school set out to equip students with sewing and pattern making skills in an efficient and effective way, fostering creativity, building individuals with knowledge and technical know-how needed to function in the Fashion industry.

The program is designed to prepare students for the Fashion Industry by equipping them with sewing and pattern making skills. It involves the student learning about the technical aspect of production. The curriculum stresses the importance of creativity, team work and effective communication in the garment production process. The best part of OOTI’s curriculum is that student would develop confidence in a short time, and have the knowledge to cut and sew.

We thought out questions you might want to ask regarding the available course, and gave answers. Please feel free to drop additional questions in the comment box, and you would get answers.

What Osas Olumese Training Institute ( OOTI) about?

Osas Olumese Training Institute is a Fashion School, that teaches the creative, the sewing as well as the business sides of fashion for those who would like to start a fashion business.

How The Course Runs:

The training is spread into 3 levels and each level has 2 terms.  Payment for the Course is per term and everyone begins from Basic, regardless of the level of skill.  Each term is a pre-requisite to the next term and students move on to subsequent terms after the successful completion of the previous term.

What We Teach:

The Course is predominantly a practical course so it teaches pattern drafting and garment construction.  However, there is another aspect of the Course which teaches the Business side of fashion

Students are taught vital principles through lectures and assignments that will enable them think as for themselves, make their own decisions, and learn as they move up the terms from their experiences.

We expect that from the end of the first term, students begin to utilize the knowledge gained at the end of each term, test the principles taught from Basic, sew for people, learn from their practical experiences, charge appropriately for their work and most of all, learn how to deal with their clients professionally without shortchanging themselves.

At the end of the Course, students would have learnt enough about the process right from concept to completion to enable them put their knowledge to practice, even if on a small scale and build their businesses from there.

How Long Does It Take?

The duration of the Course will depend on the option chosen by the student.

There is a weekend option (Saturdays only for full-time workers) and a weekday option (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) for those with a more flexible schedule.

For the weekend option, Basic will run for 4 months (excluding breaks) and classes are on Saturdays only, from 11:30am to 3:30pm.   The same is applicable to the other Terms (excluding breaks, if any).

For the weekday option, classes will run thrice a week; in which case students will be done in half the time. Students may also choose to come on a Saturday if they wish to complete their tasks and the term in a shorter period.

I know absolutely nothing about sewing.  Can I still register?

Of course.  The training was developed specifically for beginners.

I can already sew and would consider myself quite experienced.  Can I start from a more advanced term?

No unfortunately... everyone begins from Basic.  Since we teach a lot more than just how to sew, many topics which would have been treated in previous terms would seem strange to you in the more advanced terms and we would be unable to backtrack.  You will struggle in the more advanced terms as the knowledge gained in one term is required for the next term.

I don't think sewing is for me.  Do I still need the Foundation Course?

Well... you don't have to learn how to sew to run a fashion business but it is important to understand the process so you can guide your production team.  So I would advise you register for the Basic Course until you are confident you have learnt enough.

Do you run full-time courses?

No.  We believe students need time to complete their assignments and also time for self-study and research. Besides, time away from class can be sent practicing what you have learnt in each term on people and charging for your services.  If you use this time wisely, you should be able to make the money you spent on registering for the Course back in no time.

How Much Does the Foundation Course cost?

Each term costs N25,000.  The fees for Basic are inclusive of for your toolkit.

Can I get a discount?

We really wish but the fees for the Course are fixed.  In fact, they are so priced due to shared costs.

How do I register for it?

Payment of the registration fees into the "Osas Olumese" Account Number  0136026601, at any Guarantee Trust Bank Branch reserves your seat on the course.  It is important that you register ahead of the class to enable us prepare for you.
