Lessons from Kano Miracle Crusade (KMC)

Kano Miracle Crusade (KMC) has grown to become a yearly event organised by Christ Embassy Church Kano, enriching the body of Christ. This year's was the fourth, Frank Edwards was live in Kano. I have been privileged to attend ...uhhmmm... 2.5 (LOL).

Now to the gist.

About two years back, a fellowship I belong to decided to start a pop corn business to raise money for her activities, thus reducing pressure on her members. This has been a beautiful idea. We got someone, whom we trained and he started working for us.

Last year, we attended KMC as a business, and let me just say, we smiled at our income, so this year, we decided to be at KMC again.

We had our plans, we shared duties amongst the Excos, we made money change in smaller denominators. Infact, everything was set for us to outdo our past KMC result.

The day came finally on Friday 12th April 2019. All Excos were asked to be present at the venue at 8PM, as it was an all night event. I being an Exco got there at about 8:30PM, and I met my president doing the work of popping... This was his first, and it the pop corn turned out brown... This result was not impressive, and we had a competitor making pop corn near by (sad face).

Let's try again.... next result... worse.

We started calling all who we could call that night, who could give us idea of what was wrong... we had two options... either the corn had issues, or the pot was faulty.

Our competitor who perceived that we had issues, came over to our stand, after seeing the burnt-unpopped corn, he asked to see our raw corn.... it was then confirmed that we had not taken time to prepare the corn, which is important in this season, where the atmosphere is dry.

Hmmm, what is the solution?
He suggested some things to us, which he showed us, and asked us to continue..
This process was going to take time.. as we were preparing the corn there... where we ought to be selling...

Anyways with this brief background, here are the lessons I learnt.

Laugh
Yes, you read right...
As soon as I saw things were not going as planned, I started laughing at the situation. My president was already thinking of the money which was spent to bring us thus far, and the fact that we would likely not meet our expectation. In laughing, I encouraged him to smile.

At least, we can still have fun, while going through the situation, it is just about perspective. Not forgetting that a smile would do us more good than our frown.

Learn
Things where not going as it should, it was obvious that something was wrong. We were open to learn, and be taught. Thank God we had someone available there who was willing and open to teach us. He even invited we to come by his everyday sales location, to observe how he does his work.

Implement what you have learnt
What is learning, if it is not followed by application?
You forget

It is one thing to fail, and another thing to be courageous enough to implement what you have learnt, and try again.

Guess what!!!
We tried again, and we still had a bad result.
We had to moisten the corn, but the moisture had not penetrated enough.
We had to do more work on the corn, to help the moisture enter in.

We tried again!!!
I couldn't stay all night, as this was not part of my plan. But I was surprised when I found out the next day that we made sale. RESILIENCE.

On hearing this, I was wowed, but the truth be told this is what we do as we learn... be it sewing, pattern drafting, or any other thing... We fail, we learn from our mistakes, act again, we may fail again, but we have the resilience to keep at it until is works.... that is if we would learn

I have seen persons, who after a sewing, or pattern drafting sewing, go home crying, not wanting to do more, some may come back the next day, and some just end their education.

Nothing good comes easy.
You must be ready to work it out.

What have you tried recently, that you want to give up on? Would you still quit?
