OOTI Kano in Collaboration with Afrocentrix Art Gallery Presents: Fashion Illustration Course

Have you ever been in a situation, where a customer is explaining a style to you and you are so confident that you have understood the client’s vision….

Then you make the garment, but instead of being  excited, the customer sees it, and is frustrated; her vision was not captured… Then it becomes evident that you did not understand her vision.

Rewind…

Fashion Illustration Course

Your customer works into your fashion house, she explains her vision for the garment she would love to make. You then illustrate her vision in an image. Wow, she exclaims, your illustration took the image off my brain… I think we should add this design detail.

You do that and she is happy; knowing that you understand.

Then you produce the garment, it captures her vision and more….

Now

But you are here now! and you don't even know how to draw; what is the way forward?

My first experience, understanding what fashion illustration was in 2013. I had done a sketch for my then boss, in the sketch, I had only one sleeve. She then asked if that was the style... I was surprise, as to why she would think that...

As at that time... I usually put only one sleeve on my sketch (it was most likely laziness on my part); I just assumed since it was the same thing happening on both sides, there was no need to waste time...

The response of my boss to my sketch that day, made me rethink my approach, to fashion illustration.

Although I am self thought, with regards to fashion illustration, my consistency in always ensuring I illustrates a client ideas, has grown me over time.

Before now, we haven't had any illustration course at OOTI, this is why I am so excited to share this news with you. It is a first for us, and we are doing everything to ensure it is a success.
