Strong Women: Women as the Biggest Challenge to Female Entrepreneur

Image
Some time in October, I was informed that I would be amongst the panelist in a conversation at a women's conference. In November I got the topic, but I struggled with it as I had my reservations about the topic. I talked to people to give me ideas, but still yet, nothing , so I decided to play with the thoughts coming to my mind using words, and I was able to draft out the framework I used. I must commend the organizers of the event... it was their first and it was.... wow!!! They have set a standard for women event in Kano .. no infact Northern Nigeria... the team spirit was something beautiful... Kudos Ladies If you would love to see pictures, follow @strongwomen4u on instagram

Pattern Drafting or Free Hand

I started learning how to sew at a very young age. When I opened my business, people are always surprised when they come by and they meet me. Some, who do have courage did ask when I started sewing. I do not ascribe what I know today as regards sewing to the fact I started learning early. I had a lot of breaks in between, cause I could not tell my Dad that I was not going to school, so I could do garment production (ehe no go hear ram o). Besides, my father was proud that he could send us to school, seeing that he did not have our privilege, So back to the matter. In my learnings, the thoughtful part of me just knew there was something more and better, that would assure me of consistency in my result. I wanted to know more. I started learning with Mrs Mabel Odumah of Royal Vintage Kano, when I was twelve years old (it was during school breaks) She still does know the in and out of the trade. Me, I was just wanted to get straight to the matter, hitting the nail on the head, my...

Happy New Year

Image
We are so excited about 2017. Although 2016, was a good year for us, there is much more unfolding in the year 2017. With the new year, one thing that we must realize is that our goals would not work themselves out. For our dreams to become reality, we must not only plan towards their actualization, but we must work them out. Remember that failure is just an event, it is NOT a person. You may fail, but that does not mean you are a failure. You only need to re-strategize and work at it again. Connect with people who have achieved what you hope to achieve, and ask questions. Attend seminars and workshop, relating to the goals you would like to accomplish. And most importantly, act on what you know. There are no life rehearsals, and for you to accomplish things that have never been done, you have to set out. This is a risk, but you would enjoy the profit, and if you do not profit, you have learnt, do not stay down, GET UP! Let us together make 2017 count NOW. Fo...

Summer Fashion Course for Young Adult....Loading

Image
God is good, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity I had to learn how to sew at a young age, I was about 12 years. I remember wanting to work during secondary school holidays, but I dare not tell my Dad that, cos I knew he would not allow me. My fascination about how a garment is produced did not allow my introverted self to keep quiet about wanting to learn, this began my journey, and I am still loving it Today, I don't do a lot of sewing even though I enjoy it, but the knowledge I have continously acquired as relates garment production dictates a lot of things we do at Osas Olumese. And I am forever grateful for my early start. You too can have an early start with the Summer Fashion School for young adults that would span a period of 5 weeks starting on Monday, 8th August, 2016. More information  coming soon.

Okay. ..  I guess you have an idea of what  this post  is about, but before I go to the main gist, let me give you this side gist about me - Osamudiame Olumese. Osamudiame Olumese doing her thing I somehow have always wanted  to be involved  in the process of making clothing, thanks to my late Aunty  Bridget. So I started learning how to sew early, before my teen-age, as an apprentice  with my lovely Mommy  Mabel Odumah of Royal Vintage.

Dreams do become real... Do the work

Courtesy - http://thejobwindow.com/blog/motivation-monday-lupita-nyongo/ Went to church today, and my Pastor spoke some deep truths about dreams, I could not hold myself, I decided to write and share some of what I got with you Dreams is your raw material for your future. I have a dream, I realise that for me to connect my now to the reality of my dreams, there is work I have to do. Some part of the work, I know to do, a large part I don't know. So, my strategy is to go where I would be equipped with knowledge, pictures that would give me direction towards the realisation of my dreams. The part I know, I daily work with, and I am also teaching those interested,  and who are willing to pay for it😊. For me learning every day has become my life style, it comes naturally because, I must get to the reality of my dream. I know how to make well fitting female clothing, this is what I do on a daily basis, alongside my team. Would you like to learn how we do this? Register...

Learning Everyday

Image
By Osamudiame Olumese I wrote this in my journal a while back. I think I was just inspired at that moment about the words to motivate people to take up learning "how to sew" at Osas Olumese Training Institute. Ok, enough of my talk.... here's the write-up, enjoy and do not forget to comment. In learning a different way of getting something done, consciously, we would most times ask ourselves, why? Then, this is followed by; No, it is more complex. We must realize that the very way we currently do things did not come to us without a struggle both internally and externally. Our choice to hold on in spite of headaches (as a result of mind conflict), confusion (as a result of new process) made our new found knowledge become a way of life. You can relearn everyday, just decide to do it. #SomethingNew #SomethingDifferent #MakingUseOfMyMindProductively #HappySunday Osamudiame Olumese  is the founder of Osas Olumese, the brand that hous...
