Learn How to Sew: My Journey - Part 2

Image
My vocabulary about sewing was increasing, and I had more things to ask google. I continuously found articles on the internet that spoke to me, and my quest to learn, also kept increasing. Fast forward to when I finished my first degree; B. Eng. Computer Engineering. The next stop was NYSC. I knew the time had come to learn pattern drafting, and Lagos (I felt) was the go to place. So I worked my NYSC posting to Lagos.   I got posted to Lagos – YAY!!! Knowing that I would be there for One-year, put me into action … finding a school that taught pattern drafting as it relates to sewing womenswear. I also made it a point of duty to attend seminars and workshops regarding fashion, business, creativity, and so on. During my NYSC, I also interned in a Fashion House. This introverted girl was not taking chances (LOL).   Since then, I have come a long way, and my excitement to learn about sewing, pattern drafting, and garment production has not dwindled. I founded Osas O

What a blog post title for the first post of the year... I thought about it too, but since I have an already  documented post, it can as well be the first for 2020. Happy New Year to you. Thank you for making 2019 count for us, Lets together make 2020 outstanding. New year 2020 Back to the crust of today's post Basically this post is about churning out well made clothes in short time frame. I had to force myself to think about this, as my work load grew. Although I can delegate things to get done, I am yet to grow past the feeling that I get it done it better. Don’t judge me, I will grow out of this. I must, to scale... my brand . Back to the point of this blog post… so when I need to get more done in a short period of time, what I do is... division of labour (thankful for that topic in economics). I do have apprentice that I may not be comfortable giving them the whole garment to do, but I trust their ironing skill, straight line sewing skill,

Kano Corpers, Where are you?

Image
Allow me to first of all say "Happy New Month" - September is H E R E I served in Lagos, and I worked my posting there (smiling face). I had so much plans about how my service year should be, and I felt Lagos was the place I should be. I grew up in Kano state Nigeria, where I had my primary school education, and partly secondary education... part, I did in Kaduna. My tertiary education was in Ogun State (Covenant University). Why am I giving you my history? I am very conservative, and highly introverted, and looking at my history, working my NYSC posting to Lagos, would not cross one's mind. One of our very first corpers...  I did it! And for me, this was one of the best decisions I made. I made most of my decision (even money decisions) while serving, asking myself again and again why I decided to get posted to the state. This helped me make choices that favoured my serving in Lagos . I attended a lot of Fashion events, both free and paid. I attende

Are you serving in Kano State, Nigeria? Are you a corper in Kano State, Nigeria? Are you doing your NYSC  in Kano State, Nigeria? Lol😊... asking the same question, using different word combination. Don't dull your self, you can make beautiful things happen for yourself in Kano, while serving? A new session specially designer with corpers in mind, starts on Monday, 15th October 2018. I just chatted with an ex-corper, who found out about our classes, and offering to corpers late last year, when he was about rounding up his service year. He was excited to take hold of our offer to corpers, and he also ensured he got some percentage discount, as he got two other corpers to register with us. The good news is that they all had a great time learning. And I was happy to have them with us, as they motivated other students by their creativity, and the speed at which they produced their deliverables. I must not forget to mention that this ex-corper was key in the photo shot w

My NYSC and Pattern Making Story

I worked my posting to Lagos. Yes, the very introverted Osamudiame worked her posting to Lagos. (It is not against the law). After graduating from University, reality smiled on me. It was a time of soul searching, and the question I posed to myself was: Do you want to practice Computer Engineering (My course of study)? Guess what? I couldn't answer this simple question. I had spent Five (5) years of my life studying and at the point where it should be my profession, I wasn't sure. I have always love the process of making a garment, and I thought why don't I make use of Service year for my first love, before fully deciding on what steps to take afterwards. In other to make the Service year really count for my first love, I knew that Lagos was the place to be, and so I worked my posting to Lagos. Service year for me was a mixture of emotions. I was posted to an IT firm (YAY!!! big money.... your right). I struggled through out my time there, so many thing did not
