Learn How to Sew: My Journey - Part 2

Image
My vocabulary about sewing was increasing, and I had more things to ask google. I continuously found articles on the internet that spoke to me, and my quest to learn, also kept increasing. Fast forward to when I finished my first degree; B. Eng. Computer Engineering. The next stop was NYSC. I knew the time had come to learn pattern drafting, and Lagos (I felt) was the go to place. So I worked my NYSC posting to Lagos.   I got posted to Lagos – YAY!!! Knowing that I would be there for One-year, put me into action … finding a school that taught pattern drafting as it relates to sewing womenswear. I also made it a point of duty to attend seminars and workshops regarding fashion, business, creativity, and so on. During my NYSC, I also interned in a Fashion House. This introverted girl was not taking chances (LOL).   Since then, I have come a long way, and my excitement to learn about sewing, pattern drafting, and garment production has not dwindled. I founded Osas O

Gist time!!! My name is Osamudiame Olumese, and I am the Chief Facilitator at Osas Olumese Training Institute (OOTI); where I and other facilitators teach students on how to sew and pattern draft – women’s wear. Me!!! Facilitating at OOTI I started learning how to sew, when I was in secondary school (during school breaks). When I started business – sewing clothes for women - a lot of people heard about the business and the great work we do. A lot of people who came to us at the beginning, thought the business was led by a much bigger person, but you could see their uncertainty, when they saw this tiny lady (In my defense, I used to be fat – story for another day). Anyways, I started learning how to sew when I was quite young, and I have always been very interested in the process of garment manufacture… so I would always embrace the opportunity to learn something new from anyone, as regards sewing or fabric cutting… I would even go to the library (Kano State Library)!!! Yes, I d

We are going through a Process of Change

We have come a long way in our Fashion training – teaching how to sew. This year makes it 7 years (Wawu!! Can you believe I just realized while writing this blog post) The way the Fashion School started was actually not part of the business plan; but we saw it as an opportunity and we then had to put it in the plan, as students were already waiting to resume. At that time, we put our best foot forward, in ensuring that we offered the best Fashion Training; that for us entailed offering a whole lot. Our curriculum was so jam packed. We wanted our students to be very well equipped, and have all the knowledge. Hmm, it seemed like we caused more harm than good, as our students were overwhelmed with knowledge (LOL). At hindsight, we are grateful for our growth, for all those who have learnt with us, especially those who ensured they tell everyone they meet that OOTI is the go-to place in the city of Kano, to learn how to sew – our offering as always, is very worth it. As we grew

2020 is not yet over !!!

It pains me when I hear people talk about 2021, without considering the remaining days of 2020. What about the next minute⏰, or even the next second. As I type this, I am excited about the remaining days of this year, and I feel like shaking everyone around me to get them excited too. As I have gown older, the words of David, in the Bible, seem to sink "better" into my consciousness So  teach  us to  number  our  days , that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. This is very important and cannot be over-emphasized. If you have already signed out of 2020, but you are only waiting for the dates to actually change, do rethink, and think hard. I am not spelling doom for 2021, but, you really haven't experienced the year yet. I am of the opinion that the year will take a better course, if you enter into it...running. Having said that, my question for you is  this... What have you done on that goal you set; 'to learn how to sew, and cut well, so you always have consistently
