2020 is not yet over !!!

Image
It pains me when I hear people talk about 2021, without considering the remaining days of 2020. What about the next minute⏰, or even the next second. As I type this, I am excited about the remaining days of this year, and I feel like shaking everyone around me to get them excited too. As I have gown older, the words of David, in the Bible, seem to sink "better" into my consciousness So  teach  us to  number  our  days , that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. This is very important and cannot be over-emphasized. If you have already signed out of 2020, but you are only waiting for the dates to actually change, do rethink, and think hard. I am not spelling doom for 2021, but, you really haven't experienced the year yet. I am of the opinion that the year will take a better course, if you enter into it...running. Having said that, my question for you is  this... What have you done on that goal you set; 'to learn how to sew, and cut well, so you always have co...

Birthday Discount in Our Skirt Variation Course

My birthday is …. A few hours away… I am so, so excited So much to be grateful for. God has, and is good to me. I must say a big THANK YOU to all the wonderful people, who have trusted the business I run (OOTI), with equipping them with sewing and pattern drafting skill, thus, enabling them to   give tangibility to their love for garment making.   Osamudiame Olumese - Chief Facilitator OOTI With this birthday, I am doing something I have never done before… If you don’t know me, and what I do, amongst the many things I do….I run OOTI ( a tailoring school/ fashion school/sewing school)…The words imply the same thing (smiling face😄)… The number one fashion school in northern Nigeria (you can argue with your keyboard..) We teach how to sew✂ and pattern draft📏📐, following standard instruction, so you get consistency in your garment fit.   So this is what’s up… For my birthday, as a gift to you, I am offering a 10 percent discount on the basic fee… ...

I am challenging myself

Wawu!!! This would be my first post, this month 🙈 (face covered). Anyways, to the topic. I want to form the habit of writing. I got inspired to do this, after reading a Facebook post in this regard. So here goes my baby steps. Yesterday Saturday, I was having a conversation with one of our students. She revealed to me that we were the third fashion school she was attending 😲 (this is a wawu something.. LOL). The truth is that, for everyone who has this pressing quest for knowledge, we always have this feeling, that... " I have not known enough". This is so true, yet so few people are aware, and also, so few people pursue their quest for knowledge. Interestingly, I had a similar conversation, during the course of the week, with another student. Although we may never come to the point where we know all, we must come to a point where we are confident in what we know, in order to produce results from it. The fact we are confident doesn't mean we short down learning; but we ...

Kano based Fashion Designers: Let's Connect

Image
So much we can do together, .... if and when we collaborate. I have been thinking on a lot of things lately, as I have time on my hands as afforded by this COVID-19 lock-down. Me: Osamudiame As Fashion Designers here in Kano.... on our own, we can do ALOT, But together, we can do MUCH MORE. This is only possible, on the platform of Collaboration. Yes!!! you heard me right. We need to come together, speak with one voice, to amplify our collective work. How I wish there exists a platform that can act as a vehicle to achieve this (If wishes were horses, beggars would ride). So here is what I can do, and here is what I am already doing.... I AM THE CHANGE. Taking calculated steps that would cause a ripple effect, that translates into what we all want to see. I can not do this alone. So I have been in talks with other creatives, so that through our collective efforts, we can cast the spotlight on designers, starting from Kano Designers. It has really being exciting thus far. I thought I ...

Hopeful May

Image
What you feel, is a choice for you to make. At this times, we have chosen to be hopeful, ...  smiling through it all. Its a new month, and God is good. Its been a while since we last posted on the blog, but we sure can still talk about the ongoing events. Osas Olumese Training Institute, Kano has been closed since the lock down began here in Kano State, about two week ago, due to COVID-19. This means that we have not been engaging in any business activities.... we haven't been training students in the science and art of sewing and pattern drafting. Although we miss all the busy-ness at the office, we choose to see the silver lining.  It has been a time of going back to the drawing board to think out new, improved and better ways to serve our students better. If at all we downplayed online sewing and pattern drafting classes, as never before, this season has made obvious the need. Although we would still have physical classes after the lockd...

Subtle Change in Curriculum

Image
It is a good day. Excited about this year, and we are not afraid to make changes... Just to ensure you get the best of our service. This change is needed, due to observations from the past. We are splitting the Starter Course-Skirt into two parts.... This change is necessary,  as we observed that some novice to sewing (some maybe with a little experience,  or some forms of online learning, with little or no practical experience), come to us, preferring to start at the bodice class. Although, when we receive inquiries, we explain,  what each class entail. It seems,  it is not well understood, or the prospect is trying to reduce cost, thus opting out from the class which should be his or her foundation and benefit. This results in branching outside the curriculum,  when we find out that students who ought to be grounded in certain basics, find it had to understand or execute simple task.... thus increasing the time frame for the cou...

Hello February: Starting a Fashion School

Image
The need for quality fashion education is on the rise. Many businesses are looking to start a fashion school as part of their offering, or to give structure to their already existent apprenticeship scheme. For us at Osas Olumese, we have, as part of our offering a fashion school. The enquiry we have received since the year began has been....plenry (pardon my pidgin). A lot of the enquiry has been coming in from business owner... looking to set their own strucure,  in the disguise of wanting to enroll their ward (LOL. .. yes we knew your aim)... Anyways, the sky is too big for two birds to collide. So this post is for business owners... As a business owner, looking to start a skill acquisition center, fashion school's,  structure your apprenticeship scheme,  or whatever you choose to call it.... You must first understand your self Understand your target market. .. This knowledge will help you structure your offering,  because, thi...
